African American History -1 Credit
This course traces the development of African American culture from its complex
origins in Africa to its integration with European and Native American cultures
in the Americas. Topics including slavery, legal segregation, and discrimination
are explained in great detail along with individual and collective achievements
by African Americans.

Drivers Education - .5 Credit
First Coast Academy has partnered with DriversEd.com, a leader in online drivers
education. Students learn the basics of driving with the help of an interactive
online course. The course covers everything from understanding how an automobile
works to the proper way to operate a vehicle to learning how to become a safe, responsible
driver. This course requires Internet access.

Human Biology and Health - 1 Credit
What makes my body work the way that it does? That is the question that is answered
in this course. Students learn the names and functions of all of the human body's
organ systems. Prevention and treatment of diseases is also explored. |

Intro to Computers - 1 Credit
As an introduction to computers, this course is divided into three sections.
The first part deals with the hardware associated with most computers and networks.
The second part explains how software is involved in the operation of a computer.
The third component outlines the structures and functions of the Internet.

Intro to Electronics - 1 Credit
This electives course is specifically designed for the student that wants to learn
what makes electronic products tick. Students are given a general overview of electronics
including the science behind everything from cell phones to computers. This course
includes an additional lab fee.

Medical Terminology - 1 credit
An easy to read but comprehensive textbook that lists and defines most of the terms
used by medical professionals in reference to the human body. A CD is also provided
to help students with the correct pronunciation of the terms. Students will learn
to read, write, and speak words that will aid them in the study of anatomy, physiology,
medical terminology, and pathology. The course is especially beneficial for those
interested in pursuing a career in medicine.

This course introduces students to the study of the mind and behavior. Using research,
case studies, charts, and critiques, the course begins with an explanation of psychology
and moves on to other topics including intelligence, emotion, and personality.
